I have been interested in birds and bird photography since I was a kid. My first serious attempts at bird photography were in my early teens when I had the chance to use a 400mm Novoflex lens. My interest in photography took a big leap forward when I started “digiscoping” in 2004 using a Nikon Coolpix 990 and a Leica telescope. I have recently begun to focus almost entirely on DSLR photography and I currently use a Nikon D300s and the Nikon 80-400mm VR lens. I have also rented the Nikon 300mm F4 lens and a 1.4 extender several times and the site includes many photographs taken with this combination. I am a big fan of the R-strap and use it exclusively with the 80-400mm lense.
I live in Urbana, Illinois but my site includes photographs from my travels across the United States. I am a psychologist by trade, but my avocation is birding.
